Zaap
Project Description
As part of my course work in information visualization I was given the task to design an application to allow users to explore a complex data set. I worked with Zach Hale to create a tool for analyzing web server traffic logs that would reveal interestingintelligible patterns to the data.
The result of our efforts, Zaap, allows for a very dynamic user experience that makes a huge amount of information much more intelligable. It uses a combination of filtering, graphs, bargrams, and other data visualizations to allow users find the detailed information they need while also providing the context in which that data exists. Because our tool is so flexible it is useful for a diverse set of users, ranging from web developers to marketing coordinators.
Our design was informed by detailed requirements analysis that identified key tasks, users, and goals. It was further based on the latest research into information visualization techniques. Finally, it was refined through a series of prototyping stages and usability tests.
